The centre
Bouffay is the medieval core the 1943 bombing missed — timber-framed houses, narrow lanes, and the main eating quarter now.
Place Royale and Graslin are the eighteenth-century city: pale stone, formal squares, the theatre and the shopping streets.
The edges
The Butte Sainte-Anne rises west above the quays — steep streets, long staircases, and the best view of the Loire in the city.
Trentemoult is across the water: a fishermen's village of brightly painted houses and lanes too narrow for cars, reached by river shuttle.
Where to stay, roughly
Staying in Bouffay puts you in the middle of the noise. Staying near Graslin or towards the Jardin des Plantes puts you ten minutes from everything and in a quieter evening.
Everything in the centre is walkable from everything else.
